Dyeing, anyone?

We've talked about this idea a few times, but never sorted out a date; so here's an invitation:

Cambridge KTog dyeing session, Saturday 7 July 2007, 2 pm onwards

The blurb
Come and learn how to use acid dyes (suitable for wool, silk and nylon/polyamide fibres) to handpaint yarn like the skeins above. Acid dyes are relatively low-impact environmentally (non-toxic and not wasteful on water) and also pretty economical... You'll have the opportunity to paint at least one skein of yarn, and go home with the instructions on how to do it again.






The practicalities
The session will be at my house in Waterbeach, which is accessible hourly by both bus and train from central Cambridge and Ely (I'll send out times to people who sign up); there is also ample parking nearby.


I can take a maximum of 6 people at a time for us to be comfortable.

I will provide all equipment. The afternoon will cost £6 for dyestuffs, vinegar, use of equipment etc. if you bring your own pre-skeined yarn (or pre-washed fleece if you're a spinner); or £11 if you'd like me to provide you with a skein of Blue-Faced Leicester yarn in either superwash 4-ply suitable for socks (100g/350m) or laceweight (100g/1200m). Additional skeins of yarn will be available at £5 each but I'll need an idea of numbers before the day, as I have to order by the kilo.

Just a quick note to say that as Jayne's had to drop out (family crises), I'm afraid that you will have me (Rosie) as a host on Saturday 16 at Grad's Cafe, University Centre.

If you're coming please be prepared for the fact that it gets rather hot in there on sunny days!

slight change (you'll have to go up some stairs...)

Just back from a drinking session (oops, I mean cordial evening of polite conversation) at the Grad pad and have discovered that the Granta Bar has now moved upstairs...and has merged with Grads Cafe (where we have our Sturday meetings). This is a temporary move, whilst renovations are carried out, but will affect tomorrow's meeting and (probably) July's, too.

So, head for the lift and the top floor.

travel to Bury St Edmunds

Just a quick reminder to anyone planning to travel by bus on Saturday: if you're using Stagecoach buses for your whole journey do remember to ask for a "Dayrider Plus" on the first bus you get on, rather than shelling out for local travel to/in Cambridge, then having to buy a dayrider plus at Drummer Street!

knitting picnic in Bury St Edmunds on Saturday 9 June

As you may have heard, Saturday 9 June is Worldwide Knitting in Public Day. And the Bury St Edmunds Stitch'n'Bitch group have invited us to join them for a knitting picnic!

If you'd like to come (and I'm going, see below for details of buses from Drummer Street), the coordinates are:

Abbey Gardens, Bury St Edmunds (on the grass just to the right of the main Abbey gates), 12 noon-2pm. Bring your knitting and a picnic.

I'm going to be catching a stagecoach bus (the number 11) from Drummer Street at 9.45 am, arriving in Bury St E at 10.50am, then strolling round for a bit. There's another bus at 10.45, arriving 11.50am for anyone who likes a lie-in but doesn't mind a dash from the bus station to the abbey gardens...
