correction
Actually I think it was Friday night that Liz finished the shawl. By Saturday she was alternating between a jacket and a sock.
I was there
Witnessed a truly historic event on Saturday. I was there when Liz cast off the last stitches on her amazing shawl (I was also there on the train to the wilds of Yorkshire as she bravely fought her way through an edging pattern that had 14 different rows in it). Not being a very good cheerleader I just gawped but happily other people were there to give her a resounding round of applause. (We were at SkipNorth, a wonderful knitting weekend in Haworth).

I didn't make it
In the end, essay writing beat knitting. I'm at least 80 rows short of finishing the hood. I could, I suppose, have left the hood off and called it finished, but I think it looked odd without it. Oh well, it's been fun taking part and proving to myself just how much knitting I can get done in 16 days.

Gold medal for me
Done! All the yarn is used up, all the ends are sewn in. What an accomplishment, give the girl a gold medal!
It looks kind of different from the original conception, but what the heck... Must make another of those curly scarves...
ps. I think Bob and Dick are off chatting up some figure skaters or something...

A Gold!!!
Bob! - you again?
Dick!!! - I suppose I should have expected to find you here.
Yes Bob - so, any news?
Yes Dick - I can confirm that we have a gold medal.
Which event is this Bob?
Well, Dick - it's the combined entry for the Charity Jumpers event. We have a Pink Bobbly thing and a Strip(e?)y Sweater.
(Bob - do you think she will ever learn to spell "Strip(e?)y"?
At this stage Dick, I expect not.)

scramble to the finish line
I've now got two semi-knitted sleeves. I'm not sure whether I'm going to finish or not. I've got an essay to write by Tuesday and essay-writing might trump knitting, even Olympic knitting, but we'll see. Finished (or not) photo on Monday!
An Olympic blanket!
Did you see the Olympic blanket at http://tilkkupeitto.blogspot.com/? Wonderful! Why didn't I think of that?

I'm getting there!
The end is certainly in sight. Get all the details at my blog.
Is there knitting this Saturday at the Grads Club? If I come, it'll be with two kids in tow, so I likely won't stay long.

Shawl(ette) progress
My shawlette is rapidly turning into a shawl... The 8 repeats on the photo have been done, and I'm now in repeat 11 with half the yarn left... For photos of it at the weekend go to my blog; it doesn't look that much different now given that it's still squished up on a circular needle. It's currently 25"/64cm long, and 72" across the top; and I'm seriously thinking about finishing off after this repeat and starting on the edging, or I'll be drowning in it... Once there's anything to show I'll post a pic...
half a sleeve, half a sleeve, half a sleeve, onward!
The body's done, complete with purple i-cord trim which you can't see because it's rolling up. Blocking'll fix that. The sleeve so far feels a bit loose on my arm. I'm going to leave it and start the other one and do the decreases faster on that one to see if I like the fit better.
In terms of yarn, I've got two more complete balls of pink in addition to what's in the picture. I think it might take four balls total to do both sleeves, so they'll end up with a wide purple cuff. The hood may or may not happen.

going slowly
The top-down raglan pink hoodie is going slowly at the moment. I had a bit of a false start. I realised while driving home from the pub that I'd only been doing half the increases I should have been doing, so when I got home I had to rip out all that I'd done and start again. Having got over that hurdle, I raced along on Saturday and then did very little on Sunday. I'm hoping tonight I'll get past the armholes and into the body.
I'm loving the cables, but I'm slightly concerned by the fact that whenever I close my eyes, all I see is bright pink cables. Do you think that's permanent?

Off to Gay Pareee!
I'm off this afternoon to Paris for a week. But I'm taking a bundle of yarn, and I'm back on track to make something for my niece. I'll be back, I hope, for Wednesday lunch knitting at the Portland Arms on the 22nd!

More progress
Well, they're going well so far... see here for this morning's pic.
Not done as much as I'd like today - swollen glands and very sore throat sent me to bed this afternoon, but there's this evening to come...

cheering you on
fell in love with everyone's projects on Friday night! Want to make some really encouraging comment but can only come up with two quite contradictory old saws, so please chose whichever you prefer, and don't try to observe both at once...
(a) more haste, less speed
(b) time is of the essence
can't knit at the moment as my left arm started swelling up in the small hours of Saturday morning...back at normal size now, but not taking any chances

Calling in...
to see what others are up to - Mary - aarrgh! Have you decided what to do about it yet? Is there *any* chance of getting yarn in the original green?
Progress (not much) and dyeing (lots) at my blog...
Here's a photo of some of the skeins blowin' in the wind at home yesterday though.
Hope anyone else at Textiles in Focus likes them enough to take them home!

The Knitting Olympics in Greek
Gotta have a button in Greek! Read all about it here, Sara's blog.
Collecting these buttons is tons of fun. Too bad we have to stop soon to knit!

Mary here
Oooh, this is so thrilling, to have a Team Cambridge! I have a blog called Knitting on the Cam and I have posted there about my "training" and about the kick-off party this Friday at the Fort St George. Here's a pic of my project, a sleeveless pullover in a chevron pattern.
Things are getting a wee bit busy here, and I can't possibly add anything else to my Olympic schedule, but I did learn about this today. You knit a breast from this pattern, and they'll give the everyday ones to women who need them, and auction off the beaded, eyelash, wild and crazy ones to raise funds! Lucky for me, this is not only an Olympic event, but they will take the breasts till the end of May, so I have plenty of time. Ho ho, plenty of time....
I hope to see loads of people at the Fort St George on Friday, and it'll be fun to watch everyone's progress. I also think it would be a great idea if this blog continued after the Olympics to be a message board, group sharing thing. Good work, Liz!
